YouTube is rolling out an experimental AI-powered music remixing tool that could revolutionize how creators use music on the platform. This innovative feature allows select content creators to remix songs they upload, making it possible to transform a track's genre with just a few text prompts.
Built on YouTube's Dream Track technology, which debuted last year, the remix tool leverages prerecorded vocals and text-based composition. Dream Track has already enlisted vocal likenesses from renowned artists like Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Sia, T-Pain, and Charlie Puth.
Acting as a virtual co-producer, the AI tool enables creators to direct the remix process. By inputting a song and describing the desired style, users can generate a unique 30-second sample. For example, creators can turn a pop hit into a reggaeton anthem or imagine Beethoven's 1812 Overture as a thrash metal track.

"YouTube creators in the experimental group can select eligible songs, describe their desired style, and generate a unique 30-second soundtrack for use in Shorts," the company explained in a statement. "These soundtracks will include clear attribution to the original song in the Short and on the Shorts audio pivot page, explicitly noting they were restyled using AI."
The tool is designed with content creators in mind, allowing them to enrich their Shorts videos with dynamic, custom audio tracks instead of settling for conventional options. This feature is part of YouTube's broader push to empower creators with new, AI-driven tools.
The remix tool operates on Google’s Lyria large language model, which generates audio based on text prompts, similar to how AI models create images or videos. Google emphasized that all AI-generated tracks will be clearly labeled, ensuring transparency in their origin. However, it remains unclear whether Google will incorporate its SynthID watermarking system into these outputs.
This cutting-edge tool promises to expand creative possibilities for YouTube users, making music production faster and more accessible than ever.
