According to a survey by Pew Research, there is a growing trend among American adults who are increasingly getting news on TikTok Global compared to other social media platforms where news consumption has either remained stagnant or decreased.

The survey indicates a notable surge in the proportion of TikTok users who regularly obtain news from the short-form video content platform, nearly doubling from 22% in 2020 to 43% in 2023.
Interestingly, TikTok users are now as likely to source news from TikTok as they are from Facebook. Facebook has experienced a decline in users accessing news, dropping from 54% to 43% over the same three-year period.
However, TikTok users still trail behind X (formerly known as Twitter), where 53% of users regularly access news, although this is down from 59% in 2020.
The study further reveals that across all age groups, 14% of U.S. adults report regularly accessing news on TikTok, marking a substantial increase from 3% in 2020. Notably, nearly one in three (32%) of Americans aged 18 to 29 state that they regularly get news from TikTok, compared to 15% in the 30 to 49 age group, 7% in the 50 to 64 age group, and 3% among those aged 65 and older.
